Measuring Guide for Sliding Wardrobe Doors

Getting accurate measurements is one of the most important steps when ordering your made‑to‑measure sliding wardrobe doors. Use this simple, step‑by‑step guide to measure the height and width of your wardrobe opening so your doors fit perfectly first time.

Following these guidelines will help avoid measurement errors, ensure your sliding doors run smoothly, and make design and installation much easier.

To measure your space:

  • Follow each step from top to bottom
  • Record measurements in millimetres (mm)
  • Always use the smallest measurement when there’s variation

1. Prepare Before You Measure

Before taking any measurements:

  • Ensure the floor and ceiling are as level as possible
  • Use a spirit level for more accurate results
  • If carpet is present, compress it down where the bottom track will sit
  • Remember: you are measuring the aperture (opening), not the size of the doors themselves.

2. Measuring Height

  1. Measure the height of the opening in three places: left, centre, and right
  2. Check walls and ceiling with a spirit level
  3. Use the smallest measurement of the three for ordering.

3. Measuring Width

  1. Measure the width in two places: top and bottom
  2. Measure above skirting boards and below coving
  3. Use the narrowest measurement for ordering
  4. Tracks and framing are supplied longer than required so you can trim to fit exactly.

4. Wall‑to‑End Panel Apertures

If your wardrobe sits between a wall and a fixed obstruction:

  • Measure between the inner wall and the outside position of the end panel
  • End panels are typically 640 mm deep, so factor this into your space planning

5. End Panel‑to‑End Panel Apertures

For wardrobes with end panels at both sides:

  • Measure from outside edge to outside edge of the end panels
  • Use the outside measurements for ordering

6. Key Measuring Tips

  • Always submit the smallest height and width measurements
  • Do not deduct for liners, strike plates, or framing — this is automatically calculated
  • Door overlaps by style:
    • Steel framed doors – 40 mm
    • Aluminium framed doors – 34 mm
    • Shaker‑style doors – 51 mm

Tools You May Need

  • Measuring tape
